song for my father

It is a wise father that knows his own child.

William Shakespeare (1564-1616) dramatist, playwright and poet

Old as she was, she still missed her daddy sometimes.

Gloria Naylor (b. 1950) writer

although no longer on this mortal coil, my wise, loving father will be with me forever.....forever and a day as i'm fond of saying.

in celebration of fathers day, i offer this version of horace silver's jazz standard, song for my father. in this version leon thomas sing silver's song, what i like about this vid is it has the words and features a lovely collage of images of men from all over the world. i couldn't find a vid of horace silver playing and singing with the lyrics, of course there are some great instrumental versions of the song with the man himself on piano out there, like this from silver's 1964 blue note recording.

long time visitors to the mouse may experience a little deja vu, a few years ago i also used another version of for a father's day post. things have changed since then - both the vid i used then and my dear beloved dad are no longer around except in memory.

I love both the songs, I'd never heard them before, but I'll listen to them again and again. I agree, priceless photos. I figure I'm going to never get used to missing my Dad.
