The beginning of love is to let those we love be perfectly themselves, and not to twist them to fit our own image. Otherwise we love only the reflection of ourselves we find in them.
Thomas Merton (1915-1968)monk, writer, photographer

I have often said that I wish I had invented blue jeans: the most spectacular, the most practical, the most relaxed and nonchalant. They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity - all I hope for in my clothes.
Yves Saint Laurent (1938-2008) fashion designer

Affection is responsible for nine-tenths of whatever solid and durable happiness there is in our lives.
C.S. Lewis (1898-1963) novelist & scholar

Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.
Helen Keller (1880-1968)author & educator

For myself I hold no preferences among flowers, so long as they are wild, free, spontaneous.

Edward Abbey (1927-1989) environmentalist, author, activist

If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy, if a blade of grass springing up in the fields has power to move you, if the simple things in nature have a message you understand, Rejoice, for your soul is alive.

Eleanora Duse (1858-1924) actress, known simply as Duse

There is really nothing more to say-except why. But since why is difficult to handle, one must take refuge in how.

Toni Morrison (b. 1931) novelist, author of The Bluest Eye

Surely the day will come when color means nothing more than the skin tone, when religion is seen uniquely as a way to speak one's soul; when birth places have the weight of a throw of the dice and all men are born free, when understanding breeds love and brotherhood.
Josephine Baker (1906-1975) singer, dancer, actor

Grover: Where there is life, there is hope.
notes about photos:
  1. been a a few weeks since I posted a photo of ms. t - she sure is growing and this month she turns 5! yesterday when she was over I snapped this pic, it contains a couple elements which fit nicely with july's thematic color: blue sky reflected in sunglasses, and, ms t. is wearing a lovely blue denim dress. casa mouse, june 2010
  2. speaking of denim, blue jeans are ubiquitous are they not? jeans for sale on the streets of washington heights, nyc. october 2008

  4. according to many cultural traditions, blue doors and windows keep evil spirits out and good spirits in. this belief apparently is not confined to the american southwest or the pueblo and hopi peoples. new york, october 2008

  6. the first thing to come to mind when I think of blue are blue skies and how my heart and spirits soar when they are overhead! we are currently having a spell of marvelous summer weather. yesterday the sky was deep blue, clear and sweet! unfortunately, when I see a jet streaming across a brilliant blue sky, my associative mind often starts humming 'off we go into the wild blue yonder' - don't you just hate those earworms. sky above 29 june 2010

I love the Helen Keller quotation -- and the Joni Mitchell song. Today, I am finding soul food wherever I look. Thanks, Mouse.

Wow, are all your post this long? :)
Love Thomas Merton's quote -how true!
And about jeans - naah, I like them, but they're not the ultimate comfort to me -that would be shorts!

A great Theme Thursday, Kimy. I especially like the photo of "ms. t" and the Josephine Baker quote ... and, of course, it is hard to think long and deep on blue without Joni Mitchell coming to mind...

Blue skies here, too, and forecast to stay that way through the holiday weekend! And it was 65ยบ at 9 am with a relative humidity of 33%; I'm in heaven!

Great shots, as usual. I wonder if my landlady would let me paint all the doors here blue? Heh, heh!

Oh, I love that Helen Keller quote. It is also a grand thing that you give your photo information at the bottom of each post because I was wondering how the cat and dog fit into the theme (although I was figuring a name must be involved).

Ms. T is growing up and becoming such a beauty. Lovely photos Kimy. You know I just may 'snatch' another one when it comes time to rework the banner for my school website. :)

I sent the Thomas Merton quote to my sons. I want them to know it is how I feel.

Happy 4th!

I'll have to come back and watch the vid, work beckons (or drags) That kid is the prettiest little thing, love your photos of Miss T. The clarity of your photos is just amazing, really must work on that or clean my lens!

My old pal Grover!

Wow, Ms T is getting to be a grown girl, isn't she? Wonderful!

Hi Kimy,

I love the picture of Ms.t, it is hard to believe that she is going to be 5 years old. And she is just so darn cute. I love that curly hair. My mom could not get a brush through my hair and so she kept mine short all the time.

I love the blue sky and it makes me think of the song Leaving On A Jet Plane. And if my tush looked like that in blue jeans then I would be so happy.

Great pics and great quotes.

God bless.

Joni! Woo hoo!

Ms. T is going to be a model. Mark my words.

I'd love to know who makes those bootylicious mannequins like the ones in photo 2. They're all over NYC but I don't see them anywhere else.

Ms. T is the scene stealer! Every time. She is so beautiful, that one. How they grow.
