news flash: where's mouse?

kermit the frog here, with another fast breaking news flash. the mouse is off on another of her world famous wanders. she has left the big plum* and is making her way to the big apple. the mouse is utilizing one of her favorite modes of travel - the train!

while in the city that never sleeps, mouse looks forward to meeting with other denizens of the bloggyhood. she won't be blogging while on her wander. but, she will have access to the internet, so give a shout out if need be! the mouse returns june 20 and expects to stay put - well, for a couple weeks at least.

photos: I found another kermit wednesday night at unique thrift during fellow junk lover jane and my monthly visit to our local junk shop. unique thrift is definitely the best junk shop in the known universe, or at least in cleveland. this is the second stuffed kermit I found at unique, this kermit only cost me 99 cents! what a steal - but don't tell the folks at unique I said that, if they get another kermie they might price it for more than my pocketbook can afford! long time readers of the mouse may remember other kermit finds from unique.

the top photo was taken on the lorain avenue bridge heading east toward downtown cleveland. did you notice the cavaliers sweatband on the bridge figure on the left? to the left of the figure is the arena where the cavs play, which locals call the Q - because who in the hell wants to call the place by it's full name quicken loans arena.

unfortunately, cleveland like most places have renamed some of their best known landmarks after corporations - the home of the cleveland indians, is now progressive field (which incidentally is directly behind bridge figure). I hope this trend doesn't start extending to our cultural treasures. I don't think I could continue my membership at the cleveland museum of art for instance if they should change their name to something like the sherwin-williams museum! although I am not at all opposed to the sherwin-williams corporation investing some of their paint profits into the museum!

*during the 1970s some pr mavens got the idea to start a campaign by promoting cleveland as the big plum. the nickname never stuck, although occasionally one does still hear someone refer to cleveland as the big plum. while googling the origin of the nickname, I just learned that one local blogger, uses the nickname as the name for her blog. I think that is terrific! who knows maybe there will be plum revival!

Oh, I agree! I can't stand hearing those corporate names. We've been lucky (?) out here with the Coliseum and Dodger Stadium but whatever happened to The Stick? The Murph? The Big A?

(Sigh)

"...and more, where is Plantagenet?"

Enjoy your trip, Mouse. I wish I could come along.

Hope the mouse has fun in the big Apple and that the rain isn't as bad as Upstate where I'm hiding out these days :)
