may the force be with you

Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.

I don't know about you, but thirty-three years ago today I know exactly where I was. I was sitting in the dark with f and a small band of friends, traveling to a universe far, far away. today is the 33rd anniversary of the release of george lucas' masterpiece star wars.

thanks george! may the force be with you and with us all.......

I was in a similar dark theatre, in Clovis, NM. Mom had taken me to see it. Egads! 33 years?

Of course the idea behind it all came from " The Seven Samurais"...

Thanks George and Akira :)

Am I the only person in the universe who has not seen Star Wars yet?

lorenzo - i think so! best rectify that situation....but be careful, once you see it you will want to be a jedi - actually not a bad thing to aspire towards!

It's a wonderful series! I've seen the episodes numerous times. TBTG for video tapes/dvd! How about the part where Luke finds out that Darth Vader is his dad! Wow! Jungian at it's best! And I love Yoda!

You made my day Mouse! So many memories.

Yikes, hard to believe.

And those were abundant times too!

Yup, I was in a dark theater back then, too. I still want a light saber!

Subby, it was John Sturges who got his idea for The Magnificent Seven from Kurosawa's Seven Samurai. George Lucas's original treatment for Star Wars was loosely based on Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress. But the meat of Lucas's ideas were pure Joseph Campbell.

@Roy, I hate it when I cross my refs like that! Thanks for correcting me :)

Yep a seminal moment when that Imperial cruiser oozes above in the first seen, haven't had a thrill like that until recently with Avatar. Awesome.

33 years ago? I was living in an old people's home in London. (It's a long story) However it would have been a bit later than that when Star Wars got over here.

I waited in line, sitting in a lawn chair, to among the first to see it here in Hooterville.

It was all downhill for the Star Wars franchise after the first.
