hear my prayer

Travel is the most private of pleasures. There is no greater bore than the travel bore. We do not in the least want to hear what he has seen in Hong-Kong.

Vita Sackville-West (9 March 1892 – 1962) novelist & poet

I'm back from my brief sojourn south. in honor of vita* - I will skip the details of my trip, other than to say that I had a lovely time. I was able to rendezvous with reya from the bloggyhood and got a wonderful visit in with my parents - who are looking good and holding their own, I'm happy to say.

*remember march is women's history month. actually I'm skipping the details not so much in honor of vita, although I would like to honor and recognize her but more because I just got back and have 1,001 things to do. if one is bored on a blog, well all one has to do is click away! furthermore, my brain is just not operating at peak capacity, I haven't had any coffee in six days! by tomorrow I will be back to my normal coffee habits - thank goodness! I hope my voluntary caffeine abstinence will have the desired effects.

photo: piece in the folk art wing of the smithsonian's museum of american art - the one that is housed in the reynolds center, which is also home to the national portrait gallery. unfortunately I snapped this as we were leaving the collection and I didn't catch the name of the piece or the artist. anyone know? washington dc, march 2010

addendum: when I went to grab the link to reya's blog, I notice the second photo was one that she snapped when we were out on a wander. now, here's a shot the artist at work - now how often will you find this!

Awesome pictures, my dear. That was such a fun day. Really looking forward to your next visit. I love walking around and taking pictures. Love looking at art, love eating good food. Is it a date?

I have wondered about meeting a blog friend. There are so many I think I'd get along with. Had you two met before or was this the first time? Did you find much in common (probably a dopey question considering you must follow one another's blogs which means you find things of interest). Tell us more.

...but did you get any pictures of Reya taking pictures of reflections on cars? I hope so!

I'm a big fan of Moya (Maire) Brennan's as she was the lead in one of my all-time favourite Irish bands, Clannad. Did you also know she is Enya's sister?

Interesting photo of Reya. I like the red coat focal point.

Hmmm... I think you may have brought the southern weather back up north with you. It's been warm here in Newport, too!

Welcome back to the Bloggerhood!

reya - definitely a date....just hope you keep the same schedule where you have thursdays open! it works out great to stop and play in dc on the way from bwi to my folks!!

tut - and the weather is glorious here today!!!

as - how funny that you interpret the raised hand as threatening, it looked like a wave to me! i'm so bummed i didn't catch the name of the artist!

cg - i've had the wonderful fortune to meet a number of blogging friends over my 3 years of blogging - one gets a sense of people pretty well through their blogs, and 'knows' the kindred spirits out there.... i met reya in the flesh, as it were, for the first time in february of 2008 and then a couple months later in there was a gathering in metro dc of probably 10 or 12 bloggers. of the those bloggers, i think i knew about half before the gathering through the blogosphere - the rest were area bloggers that reya and the other host knew. it's crazy fun - definitely expands our notions of friendship and community.

tom - I did !!! but alas it's not the most artistic pic, I'll put it up on fb - as it's not mouse worthy! har har

kat - i've been a fan of clannad forever....well, okay for years and also of enya....one can tell they are related ....those mystical voices have to be in their dna! moya/marie is coming to the cleveland area march 31st, however i have a work gig that night and missing her - wah....

I disagree . . I love hearing about people's travels, Hong Kong or otherwise. My sister in law is Latvian, her name is Vita! Lovely that you got to meet another blogger. @ Cali . .there's nothing sweeter than meeting your commenters. Really. I've met four and each encounter has been delightful. We are fast friends.
