perfectly flawed

Have patience with all things, but chiefly have patience with yourself. Do not lose courage in considering your own imperfections but instantly set about remedying them - every day begin the task anew.

Saint Francis de Sales (1567 - 1622), patron saint of writers

I've mentioned before that I'm not really one for new year's resolutions, but I'm keen on making lists. frank lipman recently published a list of 'resolutions' which makes me rethink my aversion to new year resolutions. truth be told, it is not resolutions I spurn, it is our practice or tendency to relegate resolutions to the beginning of the new year. there's a movement among environmentalists to encourage folks to make every day earth day, in that spirit, I suggest that we make every day a new year! boy, to think I have time-space continuum problems now, I wonder what is going to happen to my head when I embrace the notion that every day is a new year!

20 New Year Resolutions

1. More Real Food, Less "Food-like Substances",
2. More Fruit and Vegetables, Less Sugar, Wheat and Corn
3. More Organic, Less Toxic
4. More Chewing, Less Eating
5. More Water, Less Soda
6. More Recycling, Less Waste
7. More Walking, Less Driving
8. More Exercising, Less Watching TV
9. More Outdoors, Less Indoors
10. More Sleep, Less Worry
11. More Calm, Less Chaos
12. More Being, Less Doing
13. More Consciousness, Less Ignorance
14. More Smiles, Less Anger
15. More Love, Less Hatred
16. More Play, Less Serious
17. More Letting Go, Less Holding On
18. More Forgiving, Less Blaming
19. More Generosity, Less Greed
20. More Ubuntu, Less Me!

Ubuntu means what makes us human is the humanity we show each other. It is a Xhosa (South African) word and philosophy emphasizing community, sharing and generosity.

God I could never stick to such a big list. Good luck. As for the Ubuntu philosophy, shame it's not lived by in SA frankly. Please tell me that signage is also tongue in cheek?

Hmmmm... I don't do resolutions or lists, although this list looks interesting.

I was introduced to an interesting concept last year, though, that I adopted for 2009 and will probably use for 2010 as well. The idea is that resolutions usually don't work so instead choose a word and use that word to guide your actions and aspirations during the course of the year. I use the I Ching to find the most relevant word; last year's word was "Redefinition". I haven't gone seeking 2010's word yet.

That is a fantastic list and I'm glad you defined "unbuntu." What a great term.

It is hard not to agree with everything on the list.
