k is for kindness

Whether one believes in a religion or not, and whether one believes in rebirth or not, there isn't anyone who doesn't appreciate kindness and compassion.

Tenzin Gyatso, 14th Dalai Lama (born 1935)

no longer a kit, this squirrel is very grateful for the kindness he receives in our backyard. yesterday chris commented that the u.s. spends more on birdseed than we do on the homeless. when it comes to extending kindness to the vulnerable in our society we certainly have a long way to go!

and another thing that isn't kind is the usa's health care system. here is a totally kooky song by paul hipp rekognizing the usa's ranking 37th by the world health organization

Dang it! I hate when the vid keeps skippin'! Pretty fun and reminds me of Mojo Nixon for some reason...

I'll be back for a listen when things stop resonating inside my head :-)

that squirrel knows a good deal when he sees one - bet you're not the 37th backyard on his list.

cheers, kimy.

Great video! And that squirrel looks like he's in attack mode.

Maybe they could show that video in schools?

The current system is definitely not KIND.

I dont' know, that squirrel looks a little cranky to me, I saw the clip last week . .sad but true. And why am I not surprised about the homeless statistic. I hate to think what we spend on our dogs!

I bestow the Honest Scrap Award on this wonderful blog. This is the blog I wish I could write, but I don't have your talent. You know the rules (but you can double up with the recent one you got from Lora for the Daily Snap).

Reminds me, have you heard from ms S?

Did you see a portion of the cspan in dc yesterday?

Where were these people the last 8 yrs with innocent people dying in iraq and trillions of dollars a month going to the war we did not have?

t baggers indeed ; (

Oh yes, as for your fellow man/woman, let them fend for themselves ; ( Heard that and saw many signs that were mispelt ;)

Too bad they woke up for the wrong reasons.

Er, sorry 4 the rant ; ( Grrrr

cute squirrel, sad commentary.

yeah, we really treat the homeless w/ compassion, as if it is THEIR fault.

i see a ton of bread, etc go out our backdoors for the hungry, happily it doesn't all go to waste in the dumpster...
that's a remarkable statistic-- i think it is time for the squirrels and birds to start giving back!
Tax the animals!

we could certainly use a bit more kindness & compassion in this country these days....at many levels.... common courtesy would even be a good place to start!

subby - one day I swear that squirrel is going to jump on my shoulder - f thinks he's imprinted on me and thinks I'm his ma!

mum - methinks we're the france in this squirrel's world!

roy - I have no fear - I doubt he'd bite the hand that feeds him!

bee - unfortunately showing the vid in school will never happen, geez people were getting their panties in a bunch because the president addressed kids about the rewards of staying in school, working hard, and resisting peer pressure!

baino - what we spend on dogs and cats could probably fund a public health care system in the us

sierrosmith - thank you so much for the honor and the praise. I blush. and thanks for allowing me to combine the snap and mouse - I was perplexed on how to handle things on the snap as I don't tend to reveal personal info over there - other than my eye or a lighthearted take on what I see with that eye....

lettuce - if I fail to fill the feeders I can count on this guy coming to the porch and looking into the back window trying to get my attention - if that doesn't work he or his brother will try and get into the food bins themselves - they sometimes succeed if I don't secure the lids properly!

cm- thanks for the rant, agree completely! we are still spending billions on military and the wars - and then subsidies to argibusiness, corporations, and tax cuts to the wealthy!

I don't understand how the anti-hc contingency fails to see that they are being used as pawns by the insurance/business groups who PROFIT by having things remain the same....how can people be creating a system that will be fair and provide health care (a basic right) to all people!

cg -when I see someone homeless, I always think, there but by the grace of god goes I....

tom - I bet the animals would be more willing than some folks to share...

marianne - way, way too much incivility these days

as a f/u to this post, I just returned from church where one of our 15 yr old members read the Bible passage today and told us he heads a committee at the high school to help the nineteen homeless high schoolers attending. 19 in a school of less than 1700 students. I was flabbergasted. I don't know why it never occurred to me. I guess we're in such a small town.

I gave him my card and asked him to call as I want to help. But it is a huge problem. I cannot imagine where they are living and I want to know more.

Homelessness is largely a symptom of our failure in healthcare.

I find it ironic that those who most protest possible improvements are disproportionally the elderly who already have publicly-provided care.

I'm all for taking healthcare out of the hands of insurance companies.
