taxman

I wish the government would put a tax on pianos for the incompetent.
Dame Edith Sitwell (1887-1964) poet, critic and biographer

on april 15th, otherwise known as tax day, I expect lots of folks around the country feel like the 'folks' in the photo above.

not surprising one of my biggest complaints about the tax system in the united states is how much of our federal tax money is directed towards this.

the photo looks like a post-modern version of Swan Lake.

Dame Edith had a point - except: knowing the government, they would tax Barenboim too, just in case.

'Declare the pennies on your eyes', The Beatles sang. That's just about right.

It's bad enough paying all that money, but when you click the link and see who's getting most of the pie... that's not funny.

Cheers nonetheless, kimy.

Fascinating Web page. I have a friend who used to work for the War Resisters League -- he may have worked on that page!

One of my friends has refused to pay income taxes because of military spending, and every year sends the government a letter explaining why he's not paying. I'm not sure I would take that approach, because unfortunately it shifts the burden to everyone else, but at the same time I admire him for standing up for his ideals. I'm eager to see how long he can persist before things get really ugly -- he hasn't paid in a couple of years.

ain't it the truth. just wrote a POV on this on my Women of a Certain Age blog. My husband is busily trying to finish our taxes. I've gladly shed that duty now after 25 years of gnashing my teeth and crying in frustration!

Love the photo! Love the quote! And I've often wished that I could designate where I wanted my tax dollars to go.

Oh well, taxes are the dues you pay to live in civilization. Although I would like to radically alter and shift around that pie chart.

I used to work as a receptionist / clerk / general dogsbody for a group of CPA's.

Right about now (9 pm in the west) I'd be heading down to the corner deli for more sandwiches...
