a rose and a candy bar

wishing everyone a sweet valentine's day! any holiday that provides an excuse to bring chocolate into the house is okay by me.

this morning tut-tut and her daughter l left after spending a couple days here as part of l's college tour. between tuesday and today they visited four schools, I expect tut-tut will be writing about their experience when she get back home. I was very happy that two of the schools on l's list are in northeast ohio - oberlin and case (also known as case western reserve university or cwru). although tut-tut and I have been blogging buddies since last spring, this was the first time we met in the flesh as it were. what a joy! you always feel as if you know each other quite well, especially if you've been reading someone's blog for months or even years; but you ask yourself, how well can I know someone if I never shared any space other than cyberspace? but in this crazy world of ours cyberspace is just as real as terra firma space.

we had a terrific time. the mild weather that hit the cleveland area last weekend and during the early part of this week didn't stick around. the temperatures started dropping wednesday night, by yesterday we were firmly back to winter; but what we have now is more 'authentic' than those balmy days of a week ago. so actually the return to normal was a good thing for showing l what it's really like in this area this time of year. I loved showing off a little bit of my fair city and it was fun to be able to be included in sharing part of the college tour experience. I have fond memories of when em was a junior in high school and we set off on a mother-daughter road trip to visit schools she was considering.

I know a lot of my blogging friends are also friends of tut-tut's, I put together a wee slideshow so our mutual friends can vicariously join in the fun. for all of those that know both of us, I expect your ears were burning the last couple days as we would find ourselves at times talking about shared friendships and how much fun it would be to have a really big gathering of the tribe.

dixie is wondering why she can't have a glass of wine too!

a rose and a baby ruth - now, here's an oldie!

Heh, heh! Was that a wince on tut-tut's face when she had the Marmite on toast?

Looks like you guys had a good time.

And a Happy Valentine's Day to you, too!

Loved the slideshow! Nice to finally see what the Case campus looks like. That was a cute squirrel too.. Oberlin is a fine school for musicians, so I hear...

Of course I'm lobbying for the NYC & 50 mile radius schools.

Happy Valentines Day to you and F and E and all beloveds in the area of Avenue C.

Wonderful to have visitors to show your city to...Your dog looks like a dog in a sentimental nineteenth century engraving in the last photo. Who knew they really did that!

When I read about tut-tut going to visit you she sounded so excited. It looks like you all had a great time.

I love chocolate and I could eat that all day long, but I have cut down to just one piece every few days. I found out that the caffeine in it was keeping me awake and so stopped eating it so often. But no one said I could not look at it every day. Loved the picture and would try everything if I could. Yummy!

Lovely.

Inspecteur Magret, having a modified genetic code allowing for this, is surviving on chocolate mousse at the moment (notice the doubling of the s, kimy, the Inspecteur wouldn't dream of touching a mouse, even a chocolate one.)

And here, just for you, the Sultan of Swat in a 1920 classic. Enjoy.

What a lovely meet-up with a fellow Blogger! It is so nice to put a face with a name. The college tour reminded me of taking our son "around". I especially liked Oberlin, remembering the vegan lunch I had with a group that cooked and ate communally. I loved the English class I sat in on. Unfortunately my son was hosted by a male witch, who seemed to make a bigger (negative) impression on him than the school. So much is in the details!

When it came time for our daughter to look at schools, she and a friend took the train and did it on their own sans parents. Much easier all the way around.

roy - tut-tut likes marmite, but doesn't always like having her photo taken so the wince was probably directed to me with the thought "not again! this crazy mouse takes pictures of everything!"

squirrel - I think nyc might have some hefty competition, l seemed to have loved oberlin. what isn't to love there! it's a great town, the students at so involved, interesting, and intelligent - I could totally picture l there and I think l found it very simpatico. and the faculty is fantastic! hope v-day in nyack was sweet!

cg - anytime....

as - we love having visitors and I'm a big booster of cleveland - which I think is one of the most underrated cities in the country! that is a classic dixie pose. dixie is actually my daughter's dog, but dixie enjoys coming over and hanging out here on avenue c.... of course as her human equivalents of grandparents, when she comes here she does get spoiled a little bit. the cats don't really mind dixie as long as she doesn't try and chase them or wander into their space!

merle - no one can hide from the mouse's camera....I think I got 'permission' to share her vision of loveliness with the cyberhood, geez, at least I hope so -

mrsupole - moderation is a good thing - I try and allow myself only a small piece of chocolate a day, although there are days....

megan - valentine's day was sweet and it's nice that it's a long weekend for the whole gang here....which means either 2 saturdays or 2 sundays....depending on how one approaches a three day weekend. of course with tut-tut here for two days, I've had a wonderful 5 day 'holiday' so to speak!

saretta - perhaps we'll meet next time you are in the states. wv isn't too far away if that's where you go to visit family....

coffee - perhaps you and your hon will be the next out of town blogging buds coming to cleveland!

rlb - I'm happy that inspecteur magret has the anomaly that allows indulgence in chocolate.... chocolate shaped like a mouse would be fine, but no, no to chocolate covered mice.... ah a chocolate mousse, divine!

barbara - I can imagine oberlin not being attractive to some students - one could say it is a fairly 'granola-ish' environment, if you know what I mean. I'm sure the student was a 'good witch' - hope your son choose a school that was a perfect match for him and his academic and social interests! there are so many variables!

dennis - puuuuuurrrrr

Hey, Great to have that slide show; D is about to sit down and have a vicarious visit himself!

Kim, I'll send you a more detailed e-mail, but suffice it to say, we had a trip that was incredible rather than merely ordinary with your guidance (literally) and input.
