one love

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
Martin Luther King, Jr. (January 15, 1929-April 4,1968)
minister, civil rights leader, 1964 Nobel Peace Prize recipient

in honor of martin luther king, jr day, the mouse presents another song from the playing for change project. the song is one of my all time favorite songs - bob marley's one love and features performances by artists all around the world.

for those who wish to sing along the words:
One Love, One Heart
Let's get together and feel all right
Hear the children crying (One Love)
Hear the children crying (One Heart)
Sayin' give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right
Sayin' let's get together and feel all right

Let them all pass all their dirty remarks (One Love)
There is one question I'd really like to ask (One Heart)
Is there a place for the hopeless sinner
Who has hurt all mankind just to save his own?
Believe me

One Love, One Heart
Let's get together and feel all right
As it was in the beginning (One Love)
So shall it be in the end (One Heart)
Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right
One more thing

Let's get together to fight this Holy Armageddon (One Love)
So when the Man comes there will be no no doom (One Song)
Have pity on those whose chances grove thinner
There ain't no hiding place from the Father of Creation

Sayin' One Love, One Heart
Let's get together and feel all right
I'm pleading to mankind (One Love)
Oh Lord (One Heart)

Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right
Let's get together and feel all right

the vid is a segment from pbs' bill moyers journal. if you have fifteen minutes to spare, give yourself a present and watch the entire episode. bill talks with mark johnson, the producer of playing for change, a documentary which explores the transformative power of music - click here to watch. the documentary took ten years to make and is truly a work of the love - a love of humanity. the documentary is only the beginning.....

Ah, nice post to read on my morning browse through the Internet. Thanks, Kim. Apparently there's a DVD of all this music you're posting. I'll have to go back to their website and order it.

Meanwhile, we got another 4 or 5 inches of snow overnight, so I'm out the door, camera in hand!

Well unfortunately I have no sound on my computer at work, and videos refuse to work anyway, but thank you so much for the beautiful photo...the pink sky and bare branches...and thank you for that enlightening quote. Truly a ray of sunshine. : )

checking out the Playing for Change website and blog to see if there's a way to work the community sound system over here into their project, somehow. thanks for the link, petite souris.

I was going to say "dawn" not "dusk". I wonder how we know that and what the difference is in the quality of the light.

It has been such a long, long struggle (playing my little part in the struggle, while heartsick from earliest age about the racism in our country), and I was out and about today where I live, in Oakland, where so much of our community is African-American, and all of us lately do not conceal how we are feeling the love and beauty of this moment. So long used to suffering that national wound, I had to ask, "Can I really let this wound heal by believing it can be healed?" One Love is the perfect song for this day of never-ending sorrow over the loss of MLK, but celebration over this ittle sprout of green hope, Obama. Elephant says to Mouse: Thanks. One Love.

Wonderful song. I suppose you watched the Inaguration Concert yesterday? Will.I.Am and Sheryl Crowe sang "One Love," which I thought was a great addition to the show.

It's amazing what can rearrange one's outlook on a Friday morning. Like shaking up a snow globe and having clarity settle in. Thank you.
