autumn leaves

In every person who comes near you look for what is good and strong; honor that; try to imitate it, and your faults will drop off like dead leaves when their time comes.
John Ruskin (1819-1900) English artist, sage writer and social critic

Men are like trees; each one must put forth the leaf that is created in him.
Henry Ward Beecher(1813-1887), minister, abolitionist, and writer

Youth fades; love droops; the leaves of friendship fall; a mother's secret hope outlives them all!
Washington Irving (1783-1859)American author, historian, and biographer

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.
John Muir (1838-1914) writer, conservation and environmental activist

How beautifully leaves grow old. How full of light and color are their last days.
John Burroughs (1837-1921) American naturalist and essayist

Never say that there is nothing beautiful in the world anymore. There is always something to make you wonder in the shape of a tree, the trembling of a leaf.
Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965) German medical missionary, musician, and philosopher

Always such a wonderful blending of words and pictures.

I did get to spend autumn in the northeast, once. I will never forget the drive we took from Boston to Providence to "look at the trees." Yowza.

Piaf, poetry and foliage are always a nice combo. Where is the park in Cleveland with the red spire in the second photo? Post a few more shots like that, and I might find a reason to come visit.

k - I love to play match a quote to a photo!

megan - this year we've had such tremendous variation in terms of yellows, rusts, and orange trees.

tut - glad you prevailed - your contribution is great.

coffee - I was behind getting the leafy post out - away all day wednesday until late, late ...and then meetings thursday morning! had to stick with local, recent photos - no time to "mine" for leaves in other places at other times....

junk - junk that second photo is taken from the art museum in university circle looking down on mlk blvd and the 'cleveland cultural garden' - lots of reasons to visit cleveland! least of all to visit moi!

jen - the leaves are rapidly leaving - but that red-orange tree is a holding on to it's leaves- I took that pic tuesday when we were leaving the library.

wat - when autumn comes I am always blown away....

barbara - you are welcome to climb in anytime!

rlb - I like stunny - it works wonderfully combining sunny and stunning! there are definitely times when things are stunny! as my linguistics professor was fond of saying "language is an open system"

You're a big fan of John Ruskin, aren't you? Believe you've quoted him before. I went to Ruskin High School so I've always had a soft spot for him in my heart.

The oaks are tossing their leaves here, too, by the bushelfull!

Happy weekend!

All Fall I kept meaning to take pictures of the leaves -- such an unusually lovely and long season this year in the PNW. But I only took a few and none so gorgeous as these. Ali
