tricks or treats

Trick or treat, smell my feet.
Give me something good to eat.
If you don't, I won't be sad.
I'll just make you wish you had!

on the back porch is a bin that contains peanuts for the backyard wildlife. normally the bin is stored underneath a bench. I was in such a rush yesterday when I left the house I forgot to push it back under the bench. when I got home I walked up on the porch and saw the porch littered with peanut shells and then discovered this guy in the bin! when he saw me, he calmly jumped on the bench and proceeded to eat the peanut just inches away from me. as I was coming home, I had my bag with me and so of course had the camera - whipped it out and snap. this little fellow has gotten mighty tame. I wouldn't be surprised if one day I hear a knock and find one of the back yard squirrels there -- chastising me for being behind on getting the treats out! anyone familiar with squirrels know they can be quite insistent!

speaking of trick or treating. tuesday ms t and lil b discovered the bin with e's old wigs. we had fun playing with them. ms t took her favorite one home with her so she could wear it tonight when she goes trick or treating - of course, she's going as a fairy princess!

lil b's ma said she'll be holding on to the pics in case there's any need to blackmail b when he gets to high school!

I never knew the 3rd & 4th lines of that "trick or treat" rhyme. Funny!

Your squirrels are the most beautiful russet color, as opposed to plain gray. (Or black, occasionally, here in NYC.)

Tres cute! These days I am always wondering if people with purple hair or tatoos here and there or wearing interesting garb are in costume or it is just their "Style"?

Maybe better just to enjoy!

Perhaps you should write the story of "The mouse and the squirrel".

re the wigs: I can imagine the scene perfectly - Teenager trying to act uber cool in front of his buddies and parent pulling out the "adorable" shot of him in his orange wig. yikes. should be good for a few therapy sessions :-))

ha! great pics, b looks great in that orange.

that is more russety than our grey squirrels! red squirrels are so beautiful - they are coming back in some parts of england. Not london sadly.

tho they're probably just as naughty and destructive as their grey nemesis
(is the plural nemeses?? nemesises?? i bet Tut-tut knows)

Nice wigs! It reminds me of San Francisco.

Seeing the squirrel pic (nice!) made me miss our dear Ched.

as lettuce says, the greys made themselves right at home in england. Here is france we have red squirrels, now very rare in england. Lovely pic (I'm very fond of squirrels).

LOL, yep, he reminds me of my squirrels - except they march straight into the house - the bin lives in the family room - and they knock the top off and get in it and feast. No cheek like squirrel cheek.

Is your guy an American red squirrel?

ah busy as a bee and no time to reply to all these great comments!! but I expect soon life will be returning to some semblance of normal...

vanilla - these squirrels are just the somewhat ubiquitous eastern gray squirrels, but the ones around my house do have a lovely reddish tinge to their coats - more than others in the hood....and some more than others.

merle.... I've been fantasizing for quite a while about writing children's books...I like your title and undoubtedly a lovely story can follow.

lettuce - squirrels are squirrels and all do love chewing/gnawing through all sorts of things and bringing about all sorts of destruction.

alice - are there squirrels in singapore?!

ernie - you wrote: (I'm very fond of squirrels). - ah another reason I am fond of you!

reya - I miss ched too!!!!!!!
