black eyed dog

1993 -2008

sweet, sweet olivia was called home yesterday, october 17. all of us on avenue c will miss her terribly.

during the summer of 2007, olivia and her human, lin, moved next door. they instantly became part of our family as we became part of theirs. olivia was a 15 year old mixed breed, but whatever her mix, it was apparent that she was of herding stock. until recently she was an active and athletic dog, until july she routinely took 3-5 mile runs with lin. then wham old age hit ( she would have been over 90 in human years) - and when it, it hit hard - first arthritis which put an end to her running days and then her vision, at the end being completely blind. but active or senditary, olivia loved to stand sentry over her charges - whatever species ( in particular, human or canine, although she was interested in the cats, they were not much interested in her). olivia was wonderful with children and tolerated whatever exubant loving ms t or lil b showered on her.

hugs and comfort to lin - be assured that olivia is still standing watch over all the critters she loves.

I'm growing old and I wanna go home
I'm growing old and I don't wanna know
I'm growing old and I wanna go home.
- lyrics from black eyed dog by nick drake

this song is for olivia, nick's soulful and touching song, black eyed dog

photo: olivia watching the presidential debate 15 october - she asked me to pass on her last request is that everyone vote and when they vote they for obama!

the number of the day is 15 - for olivia.

It's always tough to say goodbye to an old friend.

RIP Olivia. If you find another great black dog up there in doggie heaven, give my Dylan a big hug, or at least rub noses.

Sorry about the loss of Olivia. She passed on almost two months to the day of my cat Bunter...and now I have a basenji named Guru. They might not have agreed on a lot of things, but they would both be on the same page on one issue: vote for Obama!

brought tears to me eyes. In a little more than a year the whole pet ensemble of the family has died. Today is my friend's birthday and her dog is at the vet with a shut down sad.

What a sweet looking doggie! It sounds like she was well-loved and lived a full life.

Thanks for visiting me on my Molfetta Daily Photo blog. I have not had time to keep up with Amid the Olive Trees, unfortunately.

Last night I gave my brother's black-eyed dog a couple of extra hugs, just for Olivia.

Losing a pet is so tragic; I'm sorry she's gone.

lin came over last night (for saturday night pizza) and she mentioned how touched she is over all the comments on the mouse!

thank you everyone.... it's going to be tough on tuesday when ms t comes over and no olivia to walk and hug. it is hard to explain death to a 3 year old.

Olivia was a great dog! She loved her human, no matter where in the country they lived. She guarded the house, and was always happy when Linda came home.

Giant hugs, Linda!
