f is for flower

the earth laughs in flowers.
e.e. cummings (1894-1962) american poet

while away I focused on family time with the folks. following saturday's monsoon sunday dawned bright and beautiful and I had to get out of the house for some fresh air. first stop was fairfax county's green spring gardens park - the flowers were fabulous. the name of the flowers featured above had me laughing and reminded me of lettuce and my wander through the national botanical garden last spring and our hunt for funny named foliage!

f is also for friends.
thanks barbara for sharing your monday morning and helping me out in the transpo department. it was fantastic to squeeze in a quick visit to nmwa and experience the rosie lee tompkins quilt show. the marc train from union station to bwi was fast and inexpensive - I won't be so reluctant next time the price of an airplane ticket forces me to fly into baltimore instead of national.

I'm happy to go out and play with you any time you roll into town. I love having plans that allow me to hang out with friends.

You know more about this town I live in than I do. I'm going to have to check out these gardens that are 10 minutes from my house and have been for at least 20 years!

I'm psyched to make another quilt after seeing all the Effie quilts yesterday.

Butterflies certainly have scary little faces, don't they?

Great shot! Glad you had fun and that the rain let up enough for you to get out!

nice image mouse, though I suspect that's a moth rather than a butterfly.

PS - that number plate thing in your "d" post is *very* clever.

Dennis wants to see that garden.

F is for friends! They're so hard to find, and even harder to keep sometimes.

My mother's maiden name translates from Spanish to English into FLOWERS.

barbara - there is SOOOO much in dc - & there's that tendency to find comfortable niches and places and revisit those places. but have fun at green spring - it is so close to where you live! and it's a real gem! maybe we can visit nmwa next time I'm in town - I expect I'll be down sometime during when the mary cassatt show will be there (nov 21 - jan 25)

megan - ernie is right hat is some sort of moth...but they are close cousins!

ernie - thanks. that piece of art was quite clever!!

dennis - it is a very sweet garden...

tut - I was just having a conversation with a friend about e.e. cummings and the next day found this quote... my friend was saying he has a hard time reading my blog because of it's lack of capitalization and that of course lead into a discussion of e.e.

merle - thanks!!!!

WAT - what a lovely family name to have! in college I had a professor with the last name flowers, he was a lovely teacher and a lovely human being - guess with that as your name, you always in beauty.
