We had our eldest cat pass away in September, Kim. You have all my sympathy, as do the rest of your household.

Oh my poor Merlin's family. And who says that animals don't have souls? I think Emma still misses Bruno and especially for a couple of months after.

Hugs for everyone.

Grief. Poor Rosie-- but at least she has initiated a way to comfort herself. When one of our Boston Terriers died a few years ago, the younger one started licking the floor, the door, pillows, everything. Our vet said the licking was a way of comforting himself when he no longer had Judge to lick and groom.

I swear animals do have memories. Our 13-year-old black lab Dylan had to be put to sleep earlier this year. Our younger lab mix Jake was really at loose ends for a couple of months thereafter. He is still quite unhappy if one of us is not accessible night and day. I think we have become the stand-ins for his older "brother".

It is so hard dealing with the loss of any life, but the loss of a pet tugs at a certain part of your heart.

Rosie looks sad and a little confused--WHERE is Merlin--she can still smell Merlin!

one of my cats wandered around looking for his brother for many weeks--peeping into closets... going from room to room howling -(- cats can have over 100 vocalizations, one must be for calling their best friend.)

thanks everyone! animals are so amazing in what they can teach us - they surely have special powers of perception. rosie was needy before merlin passed on, now she's even more so.

along with the stuffed critters, she will on occasion seek solace with tsuki. thank goodness tsuki likes snuggling with his fellow cats!

squirrel - thanks for dropping in the mouse! there is lot of howling here on ave c!! rosie and gwen have been more vocal the last couple weeks! geez it's been two weeks today.

Aw. Poor Rosie. How sweet.

I remember one outdoor cat losing her sister in our 'hood years ago, and all the poor thing could do was wail and call out for her dead sister. It was sooooo sad, but I spent the last years trying to comfort and play with the poor thing. She used to be anti-social, but then we became good friends until her death.
