long and winding road

My lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road, though I may know nothing about it. Therefore I will trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.
Thomas Merton (1915-December 10, 1968) Trappist monk, writer, photographer
this quote has become known as "The Merton Prayer" from Thoughts in Solitude

speaking of traveling, today is f & my 29th anniversary. I can't imagine a better partner to be sharing the road with ~ happy anniversary sweetie - I love you forever and a day!

I wish to live with you just as you are. I pledge to share my life openly with you, to speak the truth to you in love; to promise to honor and tenderly care for you, to cherish and encourage your own fulfillment as an individual through all the changes of our lives. I choose you above all others, to share my life. I want to love you for yourself in the hope you will become all that you can be.

We share this wine to symbolize the essence of our commitment to one another - to be ourselves and to accept each other as lover, companion and friend.

thanks for the anniversary wishes! on our anniversary I always enjoy pulling out the vows and the 'service' (for lack of a better word) we wrote to reread them - it's affirming to read that others enjoyed them too.

I'll take simple any day - K.I.S.S.
