all that jazz

I am the magical mouse
I don't eat cheese
I eat sunsets
and the tops of trees.
Kenneth Patchen (December 13, 1911 - 1972) poet, pacifist and painter

today is rebel poet kenneth patchen's birthday. unfortunately for me, until this spring, I had never heard of patchen. thanks to e for turning me on to this amazing jazz poet and peace activist. little did she know the power behind that little magical mouse poem and how that poem launched me onto a summertime patchen quest; fortunately the library has an extensive patchen collection - including books of his wonderful 'painted poems' and larry smith's insightful biography.

Happy birthday Kenneth. Sagittarians make great poets.

Well I am sorry to say that there is no pacifism in this house when there is a mouse...another one is roaming and apparently he doesn't like peanut butter...maybe poison?

Is there a correlation between mice and peace that I am missing? I only know doves.

What an incredibly stunning photograph!

I'll have to look out for Patchem, never heard of him, but love that verse.
